Afghanistan is not only dominated by poverty and natural disasters, but also by terror, arbitrary rule, massive corruption, enormous restrictions on freedom, and increased attacks. This threatening situation not only complicates the everyday lives of the people, which are already characterized by violence, concern for loved ones, fear, flight, and resistance, but it also brings artistic creation to a virtual standstill. On top of that, the Taliban have completely banned the artistic depiction of living beings, especially humans. Works of art were and are being destroyed by the artists themselves for security reasons, or they fell victim to looting and targeted destruction during house searches or had to be left behind when people fled. However, many works still exist in secret, others only in documentation. At the same time, artists are still resisting, expressing their opinions through their work - against all obstacles and prohibitions.
In order to enable artists in Afghanistan to participate in the international art discourse and to make their work visible for the world, the Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden initiated a digital exhibition series with solo exhibitions of artists in Afghanistan - hidden behind a pseudonym for security reasons: Hidden Statement.

The digital space www.aussicht.space forms an autonomous, digital exhibition space. Through the integration of machine learning, a handling of information is created in the digital that is complementary to the museum spaces. Instead of documentary images of the museum exhibition situation, digital generative translations of the exhibits mixed with the real artifacts are shown.
The exhibits are accompanied by a collection of essays with commentary, curatorial perspectives and a catalogue raisonné.

Today, the world is globally connected as never before. Over centuries, trade routes have developed between countries that are now permanent fixtures. Now a famous trade route has been rehabilitated and redeveloped. The New Silk Road has been celebrating its existence since 2013. This One World One Belt project is an unprecedented linkage of more than 65 countries starting from China. In contracts, the expansion of railroad lines, roads, ports and airports were assessed. The overall project already affects more than 60% of the world’s population and 35% of the world’s economy. In the process, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has significantly expanded its route network

As for the daily newspapers, for which there has been a constant reduction of the sells, while at the same time we are witness of an admirable growth of the sites and the blogs, also the books future seems to be clear and it will have dealings with the web: tomorrow’s book is on the net. Not only because of the publishers will, or because the e-books companies didn’t manage to achieve any tools able to go beyond the limits of ergonomic and versatility as the book itself, but because lately a new cultural and different attitude to the digital technology has been developing: the net has changed the readers cultural habits, allowing all the daily activities, from work to leisure time. Engineering achievement in these years have revolutionized the way of thinking. An epoch revolution it’s happening, infact, the mass media are moving into interactive computerization. This process has increased irrationally the quantity of information, modifying the same rational logic and allowing virtual worlds. Our age is marked by a new huge historical transition, consequent
of the transmission, storage and memorization of information via computer and data processes. The project’s aim is to realize an interactive book that goes beyond the e-book that we see now: it should be fitting our pockets and have interactive content. So, first of all, those devices need to be immediate to use.

The book is a diverse collection of text comprising theory, fiction, essay and conversation developed and written by the members of the class of Professor Hassan Khan at Staedelschule in Frankfurt am Main; a playfully serious search for possibility in our turbulent and fascinating world.

‘The Backpack of Wings’ is developed in the context of Driving the Human, Berlin. This website works as an online platform from the physical workshop “The Backpack of Wings: Sensory Networks”. Here you can experience the migration journey of Jonas through the tracking data from Animal tracker App, and write a story of what the bird might have perceived during his migration. Share your imaginary story as being Jonas, and navigate through the stories written by on/offline workshop participants. “The Backpack of Wings: Sensory Networks” invites the participants to collectively create an imaginary storytelling, by looking into the GPS data from one of migratory birds - ‘Jonas (White stork, male, born in 2013)’. His migratory route and geographical information tell not only about his biological behaviour, but also reveal the correlation between human activities. This project aims to open up a possibility of using the bio-geo tracking technology as a tool for communion, and not to stay in the level of understanding the species. At the same time, taking our responsibility as humans to use distributed sensing technologies to nonhuman agents.

This digital sonic experience is a convergence of David August‘s album ‚VĪS‘ and Hiba Baddou‘s Imaginary Alphabet, brought together in a digital space designed and conceptualized by Egozen Collective.
The user is invited to navigate a tapestry of pixels, where Baddou’s symbolic language and August’s alternative versions of the album’s music meet in new forms. An intersection of sound and language, within the continuously expanding stream of information and data.

Dialectica-Machina is a database of machine related content. It is meant as a tool to participate, observe and get information about current developments in the fields of technology, art and human interaction. Take your time and have a look around. The solid theories behind it are all gathered in the research of the related thesis.
How can we rethink formal design processes in the age of algorithmic generation? Can creativity be mechanised? Why do we find things beautiful?
This dialectic serves as an approach to challenge assumptions and conceptions about artifacts and the creative process of designing an artefact. Why should we actually even rethink formal design processes? A more expanded agenda, such as that proposed by Anthony Dunne, sees design as “relocating the electronic product beyond a culture of relent- less innovation for its own sake, based simply on what is technologically possible and semiologically consumable, to a broader context of critical thinking about its role in everyday life” (Dunne, Hertzian Tales). Design essentially suggests a conscious act of applying an imagined idea to the creator’s perceived reality. Creativity may therefore be seen as the ability to use such an idea to create something meaningful, thus a designer is ultimately left to function as the operator of meaning. To what extent can ‘meaning’ be defined in to- day’s technological age of algorithmic generation? It is the mysteriously isomorphic connection between the two concepts of creativity and self-awareness that I wish to unravel in order to, first of all, understand myself and secondly to understand my role as someone who enjoys dealing with the subject of creativity, both theoretically and practically.

We can’t fully grasp the suffering in Pal3st1ne and Leban0n but the pain ripples through us all. Now, more than ever, we feel the need to stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters, their struggle for justice and freedom entwined with our own. Through the power of music and community, @metrobeirutrecords amplifies their voices and carry their fight forward.
The latest release, a beat tape crafted from the heart of the Arab world, pays homage to those regions’ musicians and their timeless masterpieces. Half of the proceeds will go to various relief efforts in L3ban0n, while the other half will support the MAP (Medical Aid for P4lestin1ans)

The Journey of Liquid Gold questions the relationship between humans and farm animals with a focus on the industrialization of the honey bee during the last century. This interdisciplinary project brings together different approaches to the honeybee from a variety of research fields, including economics, food science, biology, and design theory. The magazine accompanying the exhibition is also of special significance, as it features connected scientists from various disciplines through an open call. They have all written an essay on the subject of honey or honeybees. Their texts are juxtaposed with the artistic documentary photographs from Mexico and Germany.
